Creating staging site is a hassle

I like the idea of creating and working on staging sites but your implementation is poor and non-intuitive. For example I recently created a staging site but I could not access. Why? Because apparently I have to manually create an "A record (why wouldn't this be done automatically). I submitted a support ticket and got a snarky response that the tech created the A record but "you will then need to log into our admin panel and update the site and home url" (which I have no idea what he means). So I have submitted another support ticket that will take hours for a response. It has now been 2 days and still no functioning staging site. I miss the phone support from my old LW account. Not impressed at all with Nexcess.

I would like to thumbs up this issue - while creating a staging site was straightforward for me - pushing it to live has been very time intensive. There is no 1 click push like with SiteGround and further to that I discovered I needed to have a plugin setup prior to making any changes on the staging site or otherwise it would not work. I was recommended another plugin and I followed the instructions and the staging site was not pushed correctly. The entire thing was very labor intensive - I am considering moving the site from Nexcess to SiteGround for this 1 click staging feature - luckily the support is very helpful in helping me setup a technical solution to this - but this involves SSH and I am not an expert in this area.

Beyond "one click", back to production etc, we should be able to create a staging area from a staging area (MULTIPLE staging areas.) We typically need QA and DEV. Default targets should align as follows DEV -> QA -> PROD. Also please do NOT change and data unless I approve it (usernames.)

When creating a staging site, we have to manually go in and update the WP_SITEURL and WP_HOME defines in wp-config.php. This should be done automatically. When I port a site using backupbuddy, duplicator, or even the previous Liquid Web managed woocommerce, this is done.
Not sure why this is avoided, seems like every place in the files and database the domain should be updated.

I recently joined here, a tried to create a staging site without copying my main site over. There was nothing, nada, zilch. I had to contact support for them to install wordpress. It also took over 1 hour for the temporary url to start working properly.

Agree with this too. The real question is if everything still needs a support ticket to be completed, why was nexcess rolled out in the first place. Its obviously not ready for production. The old LW managed WP was great - you guys should have kept that up until Nexcess was ready.

MWC portal staging site doesn't have Staging / Dev tab with ability to pull down from live site or push to staging. Must open support ticket at support@nexcess.net to initiate staging to prod or vice versa.

Hi Jonathan, I deeply appreciate your feedback and sorry for this poor experience. I agree with you that our experience for staging sites could use an improvement, which is why we're working on some UI improvements in the coming months. In the meantime, you can open a chat support ticket to get faster help during business hours with our Managed WordPress and Managed WooCommerce plans. I'll look into the tech's language and see if there's an opportunity there to help one of our helpful humans be a bit more helpful to you in the future.
